Daniel Craig Kicks ass on a Daily Basis
Layer Cake
****
I only buy movies that are worth watching more than once. This is one of those movies. Some films are entertaining at first, and make you want to go buy the DVD when it comes out, but then the movie sits on your shelf for years before you watch it again, having finally forgotten the general plot. Layer Cake is not one of those movies. I first saw it in a fine hotel room in Colorado, with a cousin and a sister trying to wind down after a wedding party. Then again with friends at a mansion in Long Island. This time in my room while I organized old school papers. Damn, and I had such a good string of interesting locales going...
Daniel Craig is an amazing actor. He plays the role of the unnamed quirky and cool "action" hero quite well in this story of drugs, sex, and business... just business. The twists in the intricate story line are reminiscent of those seen in this movie's predecessor, Snatch, yet more entertaining and confusing. But I've always been more easily confused by story lines than most people, and I always see that as a sign of a good plot... assuming it's been done well and the storyline itself is not simply non-sensical.
Lemme sum up so I don't go on my own non-sensical rant. The plot is deep and profound, the actors amazing, the cinematography mind-blowing (epic in some scenes, reserved in others), and the movie overall is both dramatic and funny.
